From Chaos to Calm: How to Prioritize Self-Care as a Busy Parent

As a busy mother of three, juggling the responsibilities of running my own skincare and aromatherapy business and taking care of my family, finding time for myself can be quite a challenge. But hey, self-care is a must, right?

Anxiety

As a mother the summer holidays can be a mix of excitement and anxiety for me. I love having my kids around and creating special memories with them during this time. However, I can't help but feel a bit anxious thinking about how I'll juggle my business/work responsibilities while ensuring my children have a fun and fulfilling break.

Finding time for self-care is definitely a challenge, but I've come to realize how important it is for my overall well-being. I've learned to prioritize myself and carve out small pockets of time whenever I can. It might be early mornings before the kids wake up or late nights when they're asleep. Those moments are precious to me, and I try to make the most of them.

How to Prioritize Self-Care as a Busy Parent

A 5-minute skincare routine that offers both skincare benefits and aromatherapy sounds absolutely enticing to me! Knowing that I can take care of my skin while also enjoying the therapeutic effects of aromatherapy is a win-win. Those 5 minutes dedicated to self-care can be my little escape, a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the busyness of life. This is why I was adamant that aromatherapy had to be a part of my skincare & wellness brand. As a psychotherapist I find the benefits of essential oils really helpful when it comes to de- stressing, calming me down and giving me a sense of clarity when things get overwhelming.

Similarly, having 5 minutes to sit down and savour a cup of lovely tea sounds heavenly. It's amazing how those few minutes of quiet can make such a difference in my day. So, whether it's a quick skincare routine or a peaceful tea break with a nice aromatherapy candle burning and crackling in the background, I'm all for anything that encourages me to find those precious moments for myself. They may be short, but they have a big impact on my well-being.

Guilt

It's crucial to remind ourselves as busy parents that taking time for self-care is NOT SELFISH it's actually ESSENTIAL for our well-being and makes us better equipped to handle the demands of parenting. As much as we love our children and want to give them our all, neglecting our own needs can lead to burnout and decreased effectiveness.

By prioritizing self-care, we recharge our batteries, reduce stress levels, and improve our overall mental and emotional state. When we take the time to care for ourselves, we become more patient, present, and better able to handle the challenges that come with parenting. It's like putting on our own oxygen mask before assisting others.

So let's shed that guilt and embrace the importance of self-care. Remember, taking those precious moments for ourselves isn't just beneficial for us—it ultimately benefits our children too. By being well-rested, relaxed, and in tune with our own needs, we can show up as the best version of ourselves for our little ones. Whether it's a few minutes of skincare, enjoying a cup of tea, or indulging in a hobby we love, let's prioritize ourselves. Trust me, it will make us happier, more fulfilled, and ultimately, better equipped to navigate the beautiful chaos of parenting.
